Casne Engineering, Inc. provides fully integrated control system designs for the
process industries. We design for seamless integration of power and process systems
taking the guesswork out of construction. We reduce overall project cost and minimize
lost production time with up-front control panel design and instrument specification.
Network solutions for control system communications are designed for the complete
integrated system.
CICERO FUELING FACILITY
BURLINGTON NORTHERN AND SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY; CICERO, ILLINOIS

Casne Engineering provided the electrical and control systems design for automating the existing
railroad fueling facility for BNSF in Cicero, Illinois. An Allen-Bradley PLC-5 controls the
functions of the diesel fuel oil tank farm, pump house, and fueling platform systems. Remote
I/O panels interfaced to the PLC via AB’s ControlNet communication network. A PC-based HMI operator
interface allows the site personnel to control, monitor, and trend the entire system. An emergency
generator provides back-up power for all processes.
PENETRANT TANKLINE AUTOMATION UPGRADE
BOEING COMPANY; AUBURN, WASHINGTON

Casne Engineering provided electrical and controls engineering design services for the demolition
and installation of four Dye Penetrant Tankline tanks. The control systems were designed, tested,
and commissioned by Casne for turnkey operation. The tankline consists of 104-feet long Alkaline Etch,
Alkaline Rinse, Desmut Dip, Desmut Rinse, Dye Penetrant, Spray Rinse, Powder Developer, and Dryer
tanks. Casne provided construction assistance and process programming with start-up services to
meet a stringent two-month deadline for construction implementation and turnkey delivery of the
tankline. Casne provided coordination of the construction to minimize tank down time and maintain
current production levels.
SNOQUALMIE FALLS POWERHOUSE AUTOMATION
PUGET SOUND ENERGY; SNOQUALMIE, WASHINGTON

In order to maximize the efficiency of four hydro generators and still meet Federal Requirements
for minimum flow over Snoqualmie Falls, Casne Engineering provided programming modifications
to existing Harris RTU’s. A priority-based load trimming scheme was developed that controls load based
on the level of the river over the falls. During the day, the flow over the falls is optimized for
aesthetics and during the evening the spill over the falls is kept to a minimum in favor of power production.
INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT AUTOMATION
BOEING COMPANY; RENTON, WASHINGTON
This project consisted of the automation of an existing waste-rinse water treatment plant at the
Boeing Renton Facility in Renton, Washington. The wastewater treatment plant is used to remove
chemicals, solvents, and particulates collected from wash-down processes at two separate paint hangars
at the site. The system included two 10,000-gallon treatment/storage tanks, two 25,000-gallon
treatment/storage tanks, chemical addition systems, a sand filter, and an air-stripping tower.
The project was developed to fully automate the batch processing procedure and to improve the
system flow capacity. This work was accomplished while maintaining facility operations with a
minimum of down time.
